Rainy Day Chic

prepfection.tumblr.com

Yes, the skies of New York have been grey and watery for weeks and many of us have forgotten what sunshine feels like. But that does not mean you can't look adorable as you plod through the puddles! Beat the gloom with a pair of bright boots or ward off the rain with a bubble umbrella. To help inspire your rainy day style, we have compiled a few of our favorite looks from across the blogosphere.

The best part about rainboots is that they come in every color and pattern imaginable. This pink pair (left) is a perfect pick-me-up during the sluggish weeks of winter. If you are worried about clashing, take a cue from this blogger and pair them with neutral colored classics. Foolproof!

If you want to go bold, why not match your galoshes with your outfit? These cherry colored Hunter boots are twice as cheerful when worn with a skirt in a similar hue. We also love the idea of matching them with your umbrella or slicker. You will jump at the chance to take a stroll in the rain if your accessories are this cute.

Under the right circumstances, a rain shower can be romantic (The Notebook, anyone?). If you are preparing for your picturesque kiss in the rain, this is the ideal ensemble. The scarf, peacoat, and pleated skirt are the height of femininity. And there is no rule that rainy walks require boots; we love her pairing of thick tights and saddle shoes. The cherry on top is her extra wide umbrella; there's definitely room for two under there!

The cozy factor is never overrated. There is a reason that chunky sweaters and long knit socks have been wintry favorites for decades. Keep them young and fresh by choosing a sweater that looks purposefully oversized, not just too big or ill-fitting, and neutral colored socks in navy, oatmeal, or cream, for examples. Use your umbrella as a point of interest; we love her pastel yellow pick. It's like creating her own sunshine!
