We Love Sweaters

Fall is here! You all know what that means: Pumpkin Spice lattes, golden trees in Central Park, and, of course, sweater shopping. Cozy and classic, sweater season is a particular favorite among New Yorkers. So how do you choose to sport this surprisingly versatile staple? We are taking inspiration from a few of our favorite celebrity style icons.

Dree Hemingway is chic and modern in a bright yellow open knit sweater tucked into brown leather high-waisted trousers.
The color combination is idyllycally Autumn (photo credit: Elle.com).
For a similar look you can find in Montmartre,
try this metallic sweater by Velvet (right).

Olivia Palermo exudes casual elegance in a slim fitting cashmere sweater tucked into a calf-length leather skirt. We love that she was able to make a statement out of an otherwise a basic outfit by adding a unique belt and beautiful pointed-toe heels.  (photo credit: Elle.com)
Elizabeth Olsen chose to get edgy with her fall fashion. She pulls off the mixed print trend seamlessly with an abstract print chunky knit sweater and faded animal print jeans. The trick to avoid clashing is to pick a similar color scheme, such as black and white, and choose one piece that is obviously a bolder print than the other, such as Olsen's sweater. Top it off with a floppy hat and colorful heels and you've got street style perfection.  (photo credit: Fashion Snoops) Try our cashmere White + Warren sweater for a comparable style.

The LBD: Then and Now

Chanel's design was featured in Vogue in 1926. Audrey Hepburn donned Givenchy's version in the 1961 blockbuster Breakfast at Tiffany's. Angelina Jolie made a statement and caused a stir in her slit skirt Versace gown at the 2012 Oscars. Any way you wear it, the Little Black Dress has been a wardrobe staple for decades. Here are a few of our favorite looks from Fashion Week.

Calvin Klein's S/S '13 collection seamlessly blended sultry and classic styles, particularly evident in his spin on the LBD. We love the retro silhouette and peplum waist.

A leather version is sleek and modern at DKNY S/S '13.

Jason Wu S/S '13 featured a frilly and sweet cocktail dress.

And here at Montmartre, we have an LBD for every occasion.

Nicole Miller Trunk Show

"Wanderlust" is the theme of Nicole Miller's Fall 2012 Lookbook, promising a collection full of whimsy, femininity, and imagination; and the clothes do not disappoint.

Long-sleeve shift dresses are a key item this season. Miller kept them current with distinctive details like her signature slits up the dolman style sleeves and mock turtlenecks. The mod shape and pattern are reminscent of the sixties, the decade of the mini dress. After several seasons of maxi dress obsession, it is refreshing to see a little leg.

Pants are finally taking center stage as statement fashion pieces. For years, pants and jeans varied only in color and cut; this season, the possibilities are boundless. Miller ventured beyond animal print for her Serpent Jacquard Pants (pictured right). Paired with black ankle boots and her black Combo Button Up Blouse, you have a killer Fashion Week ensemble.
If you love her Fall collection as much as we do, then be sure to come shop our Nicole Miller trunk show September 12 from 6-9 pm.
